Stunning Roses

Want stunning roses? Now is the time to trim them back. Start trimming the roses by cutting back the leaves on the canes until there are no leaves left. Remove any canes that look “woody”. Be careful to not cut the union. The next day take some white Elmer’s glue (the kind you used in school) and dab on top of the cuts to help seal the canes.

In hot, humid conditions, roses are prone to fungal diseases. Spray weekly with a systemic fungicide or treat roses organically. Mix 3 teaspoons of baking soda and 2 or 3 splashes of fish emulsion in half a bucket of water. Spray roses weekly. The soda acts as a fungicide and the fish emulsion provides nutrients.
